Project planning and quote support

Request a baseboard quote

Compare modern, traditional and flat-stock baseboard profiles for renovations, custom homes and commercial projects. Profile height, thickness, material and the relationship to nearby casings all affect the finished result.

Trim Depot supports Toronto and GTA homeowners and trade customers with single-room orders and coordinated trim packages.

Choose a baseboard that works with the whole room

Start at the doorway

Compare the baseboard’s height and thickness with the adjoining casing. A thicker baseboard can project past a thinner casing; discuss a suitable transition before ordering. Hold samples together at the opening to judge both the edge detail and the shadow line.

Mock up the height before choosing

Use painter’s tape or a sample offcut to mark the proposed height on several walls. Check it alongside doors, windows, outlets and built-ins. Ceiling height is useful context, but there is no single baseboard height that fits every room.

Measure usable runs, not just the room perimeter

Record individual wall lengths and corners. Note door openings, cabinets and other interruptions, then plan cuts against the lengths available for the selected profile. Allow for site cuts and mistakes based on the layout rather than applying one fixed allowance to every job.

Bring your room list and preferred profiles when requesting a quote. Coordinate with casings and backbands, or compare quarter round and shoe mould for the floor junction.

Choose a profile that suits the room

Simple stepped and flat-stock profiles suit restrained interiors, while colonial and more detailed profiles add traditional character. Taller baseboards create greater visual weight, especially in larger rooms or spaces with higher ceilings.

Compare MDF and wood options

Primed MDF provides a smooth paint-ready surface across many profiles. Finger-jointed pine and poplar are available on selected products where a wood option or particular profile is preferred. Confirm the listed material for each item.

Coordinate baseboards with casings

Compare profile style, thickness and height at the point where baseboard meets door casing. A coordinated pairing makes corners, plinth details and transitions easier to resolve.

Calculate quantities before quoting

Measure each wall by room, subtract only openings that materially reduce the run, and include a practical allowance for cuts and waste. Send the takeoff with profile choices for order-specific pricing.

Buyer questions

Baseboards FAQs

What baseboard height should I choose?

The right height depends on ceiling height, room scale, casing proportions and the look you want. Taller profiles create more visual weight; mid-height profiles can feel balanced in smaller rooms.

Is MDF or wood better for baseboards?

MDF is smooth and well suited to painted interior trim. Wood options may be preferred for selected profiles or finishing requirements. Confirm the material and dimensions on the product being quoted.

Should baseboards match door casings?

They do not need to be identical, but their proportions, thicknesses and style should feel coordinated.

Does Trim Depot install these products?

No. Trim Depot supplies products and may be able to refer an independent installer. The installer’s scope, pricing, schedule, workmanship and warranty are arranged directly between the customer and installer.
