Choose casing width by scale

Narrower casings suit compact openings and restrained interiors, while wider profiles create more visual weight around doors and windows.

Add depth with a backband

A backband wraps the outer edge of a casing to increase projection and detail. It can create a more substantial frame without changing the main casing profile.

Coordinate casing and baseboard

Check profile style, thickness and the transition where casing meets baseboard. Compatible proportions make corners and plinth details easier to resolve.

Quote every opening together

Count doors, windows and both sides of each opening, then include a waste allowance. Send the list to Trim Depot for project pricing and availability.

Buyer questions

Casings and backbands FAQs

What casing width should I choose?

Choose a width that suits the room scale, door size and baseboard height. Wider casings generally create a more substantial architectural finish.

What is a backband used for?

A backband is installed around the outside edge of casing to add depth, projection and an extra layer of detail.

Should window and door casings match?

Using the same casing creates consistency, though feature openings can use a related profile or backband for additional emphasis.

Can I quote casing for an entire project?

Yes. Provide the number and dimensions of your openings plus preferred profiles, and Trim Depot can prepare project pricing.
